Dive Varieties

  • Drift Diving
  • Sipadan is famous for its wall dive sites, like the Drop Off, where by after five metres of soft white sand at knee length waters, it drops off to an astounding depth of over 300m. Follow the drift of the current alongst the vast wall around you to explore the corals and visit the hordes of bumphead parrotfishes and turtles.

  • Diving for Mandarin Fish
  • Slightly large than Sipadan is Mabul Island. Mabul has a starkly different seascape and is known for being a macro haven with its diversity of tiny marine life. Just off the island's jetty is Froggy Lair, with its average depth of only 10m, you'll be able to spend a pretty long dive time looking for the well-camouglaged crocodile fish, frogfish, pipefish, and also the colourful and famous mandarinfish.

  • Artificial Reef Diving
  • At the house reef of Mabul Water Bungalows you will be able to find artificial reef fixtures, designed specially to promote the growth of the coral reef, in turn increasing the plentiful marine life that is already found there.

  • Macro Diving
  • Both Kapalai and Mabul have a great diversity of macro animals inhabiting the coral rubble and sea grass sites around them. Divers can find gobies seeking refuge in the tiny crevices and moray eels occupying larger holes. Alongst the sandy bottoms your most likely to find the popular ghost fish, nudibranchs, and even leaf fish if you're sharp enough!

  • Cave Diving
  • Divers with cavern-diver certifications can choose to explore the mysteries of Turtle Cavern found at the north tip of Sipadan. Whilst maintaining your buoyancy, you will encounter a macabre chamber of skeletons belonging to turtles and dolphins which were disoriented during their journey into the labyrinth of tunnels. Divers are often warned of the dangers of exploring the cavern and not to enter for their own safety.
