Phuket
One of the best time to visit Phuket, Thailand is during the cool North-East monsoon season (November through March), when the cool breezes blow.
From Phuket, one can make a large range of choices to decide in making day trips to various beautiful dive sites around Thailand. In the list includes sites like Phi Phi Island, Shark Point, Racha Islands, The King Cruiser Wreck or even the West Coast with many more!
"The Nine Islands", is located about 100km northwest of Phuket and is by far the most beautiful group of dive sites in Thailand. Being a national park, fishing is not allowed within the area and therefore fishes and other marine life thrive under the circumstances, making it one of the world's best dive sites. Without any land based resorts, divers and tourists visiting the islands can choose to stay in liveaboards. Marine life to expect would be the tropical fishes like lion-fishes or anemone fishes. Occasionally you may chance upon a leopard shark or two, or if you're lucky enough, maybe a whale shark!
Diving Season in Phuket
The best period for Phuket and the islands in the region like Similan would be during October to May, although diving is still available all year round. Visibility is best during those eight months but overall it remains at least 15m most of the time, which is still pretty good!

Accommodations in Phuket
Gill Divers have a few resorts we would like to recommend:
Shanti Lodge
Situated in the heart of Chalong Phuket, Shanti Lodge is just a stone's throw away from Chalong pier where dive centres in Phuket set off from. It is a rustic laid-back little resort with a saltwater swimming pool and a tree-house entertainment room. This place is ideal for divers who are searching for the lush tropical feel in a small peaceful resort.
Bel-Air Panwa Resort
Bel Air Panwa Resort is a development of 87 luxury suites tucked away in Phuket's prestigious Cape Panwa - away from all the throngs of tourists but with the peaceful pleasures of Cape Panwa's bars and restaurants. Bel Air Panwa has an array of suites with 2 or 3 bedrooms, scenic views of the Andaman Sea and also some with private pools or access to the 100m pool. You can literally walk off your balcony into the pool. The Beach Club is located 3 minutes away from Bel Air Panwa Resort but if desire it, you can easily drive to Phuket Town, the heart of Phuket for a shopping spree! A beautiful and peaceful ambiance in a luxurious hotel setting is what Bel Air Panwa Resort has to offer, catering especially to couples as well as families.

Anemone Reef is also know as "Hin Jom" in Thai translated as "Underwater Rock". It is a submerged pinnacle of about 25m which is covered in soft corals, hence the name. It is part of the threesome cluster consisting of Shark Point, King Cruiser Wreck and Anemone Reef, all located within a few kilometers of each other. Currents vary but can be strong and this dive site is most suitable for beginners with a divemaster between Dec and April.
Famed for the anemone fish, lionfish, morays and the usual tropical fish, you also have the chance to see leopard sharks, barracuda and small resident seahorses.
